• Addressing global challenges: Why is China a beacon of hope?

From ltlee1@21:1/5 to All on Fri Apr 1 12:18:03 2022
"According to the 2022 Edelman Trust Barometer, a survey conducted by Edelman, the Chicago-based public relations powerhouse, which was undertaken in 28 countries with more than 36,000 respondents between November 1 and November 24, 2021, China topped
the overall trust index with a score of 83, and also emerged as the biggest gainer with 11 points over 2021. The Trust Index which is the average percent trust in four categories: government, business, media and non-governmental organization (NGOs) also
shows that the biggest losers are the Netherlands, Australia, Germany, the U.S., South Korea and as these major economies scored 57, 53, 46, 43 and 42, respectively.

Furthermore, China outperformed all the countries in the category for trust in government with a score of a whopping 91 percent, representing an increase of 9 percent over the previous year. Interestingly, for the G7 countries; the level of their citizen'
s trust in the governments of Canada, France, Italy, Germany, UK, U.S. and Japan is 53 percent, 53 percent, 49 percent, 47 percent, 42 percent, 39 percent and 36 percent, respectively. Without mincing words, the abysmal performance of these advanced
economies highlights the ineptitude of these governments to protect their citizenry when the chips are down. Conversely, China's splendid score reflects the effective implementation of the Communist Party of China's people-centered development policies
and approach to achieving prosperity for all."

Chinese government trusted by 91% of the people.
The U.S. government trusted by 39% of the people.

Shouldn't a "of the people, by the people, and for the people" government also at the same earn people's trust?
Why so many in the West still consider the US a democracy and China the opposite of democracy?

At present, no country in the world present has any ranking above 90%. Do anyone know which country can surpass China in trusted government?

China has done well with a whopping 91% of people trusted the government in creating and approaching people-centered policies to achieving prosperity for all.

To be fair, China did not get 91% trust all the time. But then the issue is not absolute performance but relative.
The puzzle over the years is that why a self proclaimed model of democracy could not earn the trust of its people.

To the extent that Americans are not an ungratious bunch and they fail to appreciate how government officials have been
responding to their needs and desires and working selflessly all the time.

This leaves only one conclusion, the US and perhaps the West get democracy wrong.

What kind of democracy did the West got wrong when they were working selflessly to the needs and desires of Americans?

Well, the problem is that U.S. political leaders are not committed to work selflessly all the time. Because they don't have
to and/or they still don't know that they have to.

In some sense, democracy is a matter of the public square. But REAL, not theoretical, democracy for a large country is
inevitably, a long term multi-generational and non-linear process. This is also how Francis Fukuyama's "The End of History"
is true. After a country have experienced multiple failure-rebuilding cycles, it would invariably getting closer and closer to
true democracy. This view also makes history a public square over time and space. The test of time is also a test of
    democracy.

All other things equal, the older a nation/people and the larger a nation/people, it is inherently more democratic.
Comparing China and the US, the latter has ritualistic election. But its leaders don't know and don't necessarily committed
themselves to work selflessly all the time.
