Did a Chinese DF-17 developer really defect to the UK a few days ago?
Unlikely.
The dongfeng program is a top tier program, on the same level as a nuclear sub.
Why?
It is nuclear capable.
That means the missile specs are secondary to the secrets buried within the command and control systems.
After suffering espionage by Taiwanese agents some decades ago, China tightened up security. It is unlikely to be penetrated by western intelligence, because even the Taiwanese find it hard in the era of Xi Jinping.
Getting dongfeng data is such a coup that success will be blacked out, for fear of escalation. Bragging about it means it is either made up, or exaggerated.
