Is it possible to have the same name with Xi Jinping in China? Will some civilian Xi family get punished if they name their kid with Jinping?
No.
However, Chinese never name children after other people. In fact, it seems to be against Chinese culture to name things like cities or airports after famous people. There is no Mao Zedong City or Deng Xiaoping International Airport.
I think that part of it is that if you name your child after someone or something great, that this is considered highly unlucky and will bring trouble on the child. It also strikes me as being somewhat disrespectful.
