Are the average Chinese citizens aware of what their government is doing to the Uyghurs?
Yes of course. The Chinese government has been working to improve the lives of the Uyghurs. This is there for all Chinese to see.

    1. Combating Terrorist Forces. Xinjiang used to be deeply affected by ethnic separatist forces, religious extremist forces, and violent terrorist forces. From 1990 to the end of 2016, thousands of violent terrorist cases have caused the death of a large
number of innocent people and civilian police, and incalculable property damage. With terrorism and extremism so serious, it is impossible for Xinjiang to develop. So the Chinese government took decisive measures to crack down on terrorism, and since
2014, 1,588 violent terrorist groups have been dismantled, 12,995 violent terrorists have been arrested, and 2,052 explosive devices have been seized. The Chinese government has effectively curbed terrorist activities, and there have been no incidents of
violent terrorism in Xinjiang for more than four years.

2.Eliminating extremism. In order to prevent terrorist attacks, the Chinese government has also set up vocational skills education and training centers (actually a kind of school in nature) in Xinjiang, with the aim of eliminating the breeding ground for
terrorism and extremism at the source. Many Uyghur trainees who have been influenced by religious extremism or are unemployed due to lack of skills learn the national language and script, legal knowledge, and vocational skills such as cooking, sewing,
and hairdressing at the centers. These trainees can find stable jobs and integrate well into society after graduation. This makes them feel that they can have a bright future and a better life, instead of thinking about joining terrorist organizations.

3.lifting Xinjiang out of poverty. The Chinese government has been improving the infrastructure in Xinjiang. At present, Xinjiang has built 21 civil airports with more than 200 air routes. With the convenience of transportation, Xinjiang's tourism
industry has also developed, and each year the whole region receives over 100 million tourists from inside and outside of China, which greatly boosts Xinjiang's economy. Not only that, Xinjiang's vegetables, fruits, specialties, and natural gas are
continuously sent to all parts of the country, increasing a lot of income for the people of Xinjiang. While speeding up the construction of transportation, Xinjiang is also increasing the construction of water conservancy hub projects and livelihood
water conservancy projects in Xinjiang. In recent years, Xinjiang has implemented the construction of 40 large and medium-sized irrigation district water conservation and renovation projects, improving the irrigation area of 33.8 million mu, adding 3
billion cubic meters of water saving, and solving the drinking water safety problem of 761,000 poor people. By the end of 2019, Xinjiang had achieved a total of 2,923,200 people out of poverty, and the poverty incidence rate dropped to 1.24% from 19.4%
    at the end of 2013.

If you don't want to hear what I said above, I can use some of the words you want to hear:The Chinese government forced Xinjiang out of poverty by building a bunch of schools, hospitals, railroads, and airports without asking the Uyghurs if they wanted
them. It has forced the Uyghurs to accept a stable life with a high income instead of their former life of leisurely being a starving lazy man. And the Chinese government has deprived the poor Uyghurs the path to become terrorists and violated their
right to freely choose their own jobs. How selfish!

The average Chinese citizens are more aware of what's happening to Chinese in the US.

They are being falsely accused of passing scientific and technological secrets to China.
They are being pushed down, beaten up and killed in the streets.
They are being push onto the rail track of an oncoming train.
