How could China achieve an eight percent growth in economy last year during the COVID-19?
    Because the covid policy worked.

People get the policy wrong. People hear that China has locked down when there hasn't been a national lock down in 18 months. What China will do is a hard lock down by district to stop the spread. Right now about 60 districts are under some restriction
but that means that 2700 districts are not.

The trouble with US policy is that the government is spending extraordinary amounts of money to keep things appear normal.

One thing that I find disturbing is the amount of wishful thinking there is in the West. People assume living with covid means pretend it does not exist. And no one has any plans if we get hit by the rho, sigma, and tau variants.

And Covid is not the last pandemic. There will be another one.
