Has the time come for the West to ignore mainland China's "red lines" (e.g. Taiwan), call their bluff, draw them into war and teach them a lesson?
The only country that is keen on war with China is the US. And if they think they can win a war against China in China, they would have done it already.

But let us go back into history.

After the war between the Communists and Chiang Kai Sheik's ROC army. Chiang Kai Sheik and his forces withdrew to Taiwan, where they continued to use the name Republic of China. At that time, Chiang Kai Sheik’s faction were representing China in the
United Nations. Meanwhile, mainland China was called The People’s Republic of China.

The People's Republic of China claimed to be the successor state of the Republic of China, while the Nationalists in Taiwan championed the continued existence of the Republic of China. Both claimed to be the only legitimate Chinese government, and each
refused to maintain diplomatic relations with countries that have recognized the other, consistent with their claim of One China.

The ROC continued to represent China while mainland China was not represented at the United Nations, since both sides claim that there is only one China.

Then through UN Resolution No. 2758, the United Nations agreed to change the representative for China from ROC to PRC. In other words, all countries of the United Nations agreed that there is only one China.

So on what basis is the questioner trying to recognize Taiwan? That would be against the UN resolution!
