Why do some Hong Kong people accept that Britain does not give them democracy, but don't accept that China gives them part of democracy?
    Does not?

    Try did not.

Five generations of my family lived colonial Hong Kong and none of them tasted democracy in over a century of rule.

Chris Patten explained that Hong Kong enjoyed democracy because he as governor was chosen by the elected government of Britain.

The cheek of that pretentious b*stard!

Democratic or not, Hong Kong post 1997 has been governed by the principle 港人治港, or governance by locals. The entire government is a 100% local affair, with a high degree of autonomy from Beijing.

Hong Kongers have never enjoyed more control over what goes on within Hong kong than post handover.

That's a fact, whether you accept it or not.
