Why in 2018 there was a migration of 4,000 people from mainland China to East Timor, a small, poor, and underdeveloped country? Were they fooled?
How significant is 4,000 migrants out of 1.4 billion people? How many percent is that?

And you are mistaken. That 4,000 is the total number of Chinese who migrated to East Timor between 2002 and 2018. That’s 17 years, including 2002 and 2018. That’s an average of about 235 people a year. Is that a big deal for China?

The Chinese community mainly operates small businesses and restaurants in the capital, as well as small stores in rural areas, where there are often no other shops.
