The US helped China, Japan, and S. Korea industrialize and become wealthy. Japan and South Korea show their gratitude to the USA by being strong allies. Why does China treat the US as an enemy?
The question really only needs a quick answer:
United States did indeed help China industrialize – – the Republic of China. Just as the US chose South Korea, the US made its choice of which China to help.
Just a quick note that the propaganda from that time labeled the Republic of China, “free China.” This is simply nonsense – – both the Republic of China as well as the Peoples Republic of China were run by authoritarian, strong men. I am not,
incidentally, being critical of this fact, since I think it was absolutely necessary at that time. But the idea that the Republic of China was some free and easy, classical Greek democracy is purposefully misleading bullshit.
