A fight erupted at a crowded gas station in North Carolina when a

During the first "gas crises" back in the '70's, I was running a
specialized auto repair shop which also sold gasoline. The local
gasoline retailer's association had recommended that gasoline only be
sold to those who had less than 1/2 tank, to discourage the "top it
off" hoarders from filling the waiting lines to the pumps.
I happened to be on pump duty, and asked a gentleman to show me his
gas gauge. It was at full. I pointed out the signs concerning "less
than half full." At this point he jumped out of the car, yelling and
demanding gas. Then he pulled back his coat revealing a shoulder
holster and said something to the effect of "you WILL give me gas."
I calmly replied, "look over there." He spotted one of my employees
lying prone on the ground of a bay entrance, sheltered behind the
wall. He had my rifle trained on the angry man.
Guess what? He hopped back in his car and left in a big hurry.
Another "no shot fired" self defense with a firearm. One of four in my lifetime....

Gun control is like trying to reduce drunk driving by making it tougher for sober people to own cars.
