Quetzalcoatl is said to have self-sacrificed on thorns.

This is one reason why I think Quetzalcoatl was similar to Jesus,
who had a crown of thorns and who has thorns wrapped around
his heart in the old Catholic Sacred Heart of Jesus picture, and
to Moses, who observed a burning (which I think was a glowing
blue rose at night) in the thorn bush.
