• The Most Exquisite Re-Rendered Lao Classics

From Her Lao@21:1/5 to All on Sat Jan 23 18:43:12 2021
All kinds of older or classic songs, in all cultures, have been covered or re-rendered by all kinds of different, modern singers...

I found these "covers" to be among the best.

I like the word "re-render" better, because that's what it really is: to redo a well known, beloved classic, sometimes sticking to every detail as was done in the past and doing it perfectly and other times varying or changing the singing pitch/voice, re-
arranging the notes (faster or slower or focusing on a certain aspects the new artists think needed to be done, to update the song).

My favorite singer who's done these re-rendering is ອຸດອນ ວົງສີ (Oudone Vongsy).

I think he has on average the best voice, the most subtlety, and the most interesting musical re-arrangments... that are best for the re-rendering of a lot of these 1950s - 1980s Lao songs...

One of my truly favorites, as someone who grew up loving late 1870s to late 1980s rock & as someone who plays the guitar..... is this first one ---- ເພັດໃນຕົມ ---- a slow to medium paced, exquisite, traditional Lao class song that has
been transformed, literally, into an even more exquisite modern classic, going back and forth between fast heavy metal rock style & breath-taking, slow, ballad-like introspection....

The mixed pacing, the re-arranging of the music/notes, the singing, the voice, the guitar... everything came together just exactly as it should be... I've heard over a dozen re-rendering by a dozen different singers, on this classic song, and this one,
to me, is head and shoulder above all others.

Second in my liking, with this same song, would be the older cover by Sombath Keokhamdy... some 15 or 20 years ago....

Nyob Zoo Xyoo Tshiab. Long time no chat. Still the ever commie anarchist? For awhile I have thought that there were just three die-hard SCLers left in this forum, two commie labeled democrats and one self-avowed Trumpist. Now it's four.

No doubt ອຸດອນ ວົງສີ (Oudone Vongsy) is a very talented Laonork singer of our time. Check out this guy rendering the same song https://youtu.be/3kHJ4RjqP-0

You know how it all went down: I was apprehended & taken to Guantanamo, for saying "fake" things about our former Great Leader, God's point man on earth, Donald J. ("J" stands for "Justice") Trump! Luckily, my crime was only for 4 years, not the 43 years
that poor Thai woman got for saying "false things" about Buddha and Vishnu's Holy and Divine King of Thailand... or the Life Sentence handed out in Laos, for criticizing the "correct leadership." Or the automatic Death Sentence, as in North Korea, for
criticizing Divine Ruler little fat Emperor Kim Jung-Un or his little sister...

Yes, I like that guy's rendering, too. In fact, I first heard of it performed/improvised live, in a dingy little night club-like gathering, in the Twin Cities, yes ago. I think he, the Lao singer, and his band --- a mix of Lao and Hmong musicians (for
that night anyway) --- played it for a slow dance during the new year or some occasion.

I didn't know, I still don't know, if the singer(s) are/is the same (the one on this video and the bald guy I saw, or thought I saw, in the Twin Cities)... but the SINGING (how it's rendered) is the same. Immediately, I fell in love with both the song
and the singing... At that time, I had never heard of this particular classic... yet, it felt immediately familiar, due to all these early childhood Lao classic melodies I had in my head....

So, yes, again, I like this rendering, I like Sombath Kheokhamdy's, and I like Oudoune Vongsy's the most, of all the dozen or so re-rendering I've listened to over the last four years while in Guantanamo... although there are two three other singers who
also did a really good job in their own re-arrangements...

Sorry, this above song should have been this one, not a reposting of the one that I just posted above it (as that's clearly the older version, not Oudoune Vongsy's song): This is one of the few songs where the randomly inserted VIDEOGRAPHY worked
exquisitely to enhance the song. The video clips by Mackie Phrasavath here --- as in many other Laos songs --- were just extraordinarily beautiful, ranging from rain forest, to snow capped mountains to desert to tropical oceans.... all done using ultra
professional time lapsed software and camera movements...

But, yes, if I had to pick just one singer, one singing, and/or one re-rendering, this fast-slow ballad-like blending of fast rock and traditional Lao introspective approach, by this singer from the LAO ARTIST ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE band. This is the
only Lao song I've listened to that I get to enjoy both modern Western fast rock and exquisite traditional Lao singing introspection in the same song and musical arrangement...

LAO ARTIST ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE has done quite a few things in terms of re-rendering some Lao oldies such as this one https://youtu.be/Y8-JJ3f7VMk

    Her Lao,

Check out this song https://youtu.be/PHPNhaiQz-o . L.A.O.S. has done an excellent job in re-rendering this Lao oldie. Anousone the producer/music arranger was able to get the original vocal and remixed with a modern touch. The the original song https://
youtu.be/OC1vrlFO7qM came out in the early 1960's. I didn't even have a pair of floppy sandals.
