• Corruption? In America?

From Good Soldier Schweik@21:1/5 to All on Sun Sep 15 17:28:49 2019
Hey, I just read in the Bangkok post that bribery is not solely a Thai
sport as I've been told here.

I read that TV star Felicity Huffman has been sentenced to 14 days in
jail for paying a $15,000 bribe to rig her daughter's test scores. In
addition to the two weeks in Jail she is fined $30,000 and has to
apologized to the daughter for thinking that the daughter couldn't
pass the SAT tests on her own.

But even more enlivening, the article says that Huffman is penny anti
stuff. That some parents are paying $500,000 in bribes to get their
kid into collage. Can you imagine? The cost of a (small) house to get
    your kid into school.

So come on, abuse me for hitting the cop 300 baht for crossing the
solid line but remember all the time I'm thinking OH! WOW! 300 baht
over here and 15,200,000 baht in America.

And Hey! The courts are really going after those who accept bribes
too. "Former Stanford University sailing coach John Vandemoer received
a day in prison. He admitted helping students get into Stanford as
recruited athletes in exchange for $270,000."

    Nice troll.

    Thailand ranked 99/180 for corruption.

    USA 22/180.

    Higher score = more corrupt.

I find it rather interesting that while I post actual facts, i.e.,
massive bribes used to ensure that kids get into collage you label it
as "troll". Or is that an attempt to deny reality.

Or do you somehow consider a 300 baht ($10) bribe to a traffic cop a
far greater sin than a $500,000 bribe to a collage?

One thing that has always astounded me is how the term corruption is
always applied to the individual accepting the bribe as though the sin
    were his alone.

You hit to cop 300 baht to avoid a speeding ticket... Oh Wow! The cop
is corrupt! But in every example of a cop and a traffic ticket that
I've witnessed over the past, nearly 50 years, the driver could have
taken the ticket, but prefers to give the cop a gift to avoid the
bother of going to the police station and paying the fine.

So who is corrupt? The cop for taking the money or the driver for
    offering the money?

But of course you will lay all blame at the police's feet. After all
that fits your preconceived ideas and God forbid that you should be
    forced to face reality.
