The majority of Americans believe the Supreme Court’s ruling
last year that ended affirmative action for universities
around the country is “mostly a good thing,” according to
a new poll.
Sixty-eight percent of respondents said they viewed the
decision favorably, while 32 percent said it’s “mostly a
bad thing,” according to a Gallup Center on Black Voices
survey published Tuesday.
Black Americans were most divided in their responses, with
52 percent in favor of the decision and 48 percent against.
White adults viewed it most favorably compared to polled Black,
Hispanic and Asian Americans, with 72 percent saying it was
a good move.
. . .
AA was always bad policy - "fixing" racism with MORE racism.
However it was seen as an expedient at the time, a way to
rapidly get more minorities, esp 'blacks', into higher
positions in society. Principle crumbling before political
realities isn't exactly a new thing.
Of LATE however, AA had an unexpected bad result - it
persecuted *another* US 'minority' - 'asians' - and was
quickly seen as being far more about pure 'color' than
"minority opportunity".
We note that this poll actually shows a slight majority
of "blacks" being against AA. This is not so surprising
as AA has long made "blacks" seem "less legit" - the
assumption being that they got a "free ride" without
actually having to be COMPETENT. Just another way to
keep them down on the DNC plantation ....
The sudden burst of "hispanics" is further complicating
the AA picture. They aren't exactly "white" but not really
"black" or even "asian" either - not in overt appearance
or culture. The convenient two-sided picture of the 1960s
which could be cast as 'good-vs-evil" just can't be
painted anymore.
ABILITY is the only legit criteria. Yep, before the 70s
ability WAS sometimes neglected in favor of 'color' and
thus we had racial discimination. Well, a lot of those
attitudes have changed considerably. If any 'majority'
is afraid these days it's of the "asians" - mostly the
1st native-born gen - because they put SO much energy
into success. It's not that they're really "smarter"
overall, it's that they'll put in the EFFORT to be the
best. They have something to gain while all the rest
prefer to sit comfortably on their laurels.
Always aim for "equality of opportunity" folks - it's
the American Way and Best Thing Going.
