A "little" low-pressure area that formed just south
of Miami a couple of days ago proved to pack a BIG
punch. The Miami area got over 10 inches of rain
in a day. Hurricane-force gusts afflicted the Palm
Beach area and last night the Fellsmere/Sebastian
area a bit further north got 13.5 inches of rain in
just a few hours.
Most of this was due to "stationary" rain cells that
formed and barely moved for hours. Fed with tropical
moisture the rainfall potential was vast, and was
realized.
The low pressure area is now migrating up the east
coast, but will be far enough offshore so there
should be no more floods - just rough surf. It will
end as an unimpressive 'noreaster' off Canada.
The weather forecasters COMPLETELY missed this
thing, assumed half or less the actual effect.
