    Carter got it right.

Most assumed his 'Malaise' speech was a jab
    at the incoming Reaganites.

    But now ... I don't think so.

Carter wasn't one for cheap shots. He smelled
something starting to rot in the USA and used
basically his final bully pulpit to SAY so.

Yep, the neo-cons were PART of the malaise, but
only one small part. What was going wrong was
far more systemic, national, indeed beyond our
    borders.

The western world was losing "it" ... that
sense of identity and purpose and will.
This is not so much different from what
happened to Rome. It did not "fall" - it
slowly slowly decomposed until the center
    finally could not hold.

    Large political/ideological entities tend to
start strong ... then they coast ... then they
start to rot. It's kinda like rich families ...
GrandDad makes the empire, The kids can't quite
keep up, and the grandkids blow the remaining
money on fast cars and coke.

Now, across the USA/West, the Wokies are the next
stage of degradation - a weird mix of anarchy and
    loonie-leftism mixed with a NAZIesque, ISIS-like,
aggression and hate. They seem to WANT it all to
fall apart, probably assuming they will somehow
come to take charge, be seen as 'saviors', after
the Great Fall. Nope. Won't happen of course, but
    they'll never see that.

And The Future - something 'hot', something still
'new'. That's gonna be Red China. Nobody else comes
close. They are totalitarians. You WON'T like it.
Better not SAY so however ...

The Great Experiment In Democracy seems to be a
failure. Embedded within was the ability to
destroy itself - and now we're seeing it. Like
Rome it won't fall all at once ... just Drip,
    Drip, Dripping away ....

Plato kinda KNEW how this would turn out. He
could see the self-destructive potential and
enough about Human Nature to see how things
would proceed. "Republics" were a cheat, hoped
to be a fix for 'democracy', but they merely
    delayed things.

The West MAY rise again, in a somewhat different
form. 1000 years ? Hope there's not too much
    Sieg Heil-ing involved .....
