32 Venezuelan nationals sent back home
The 32 Venezuelan nationals, who were rescued by members of the Trinidad
and Tobago Coast Guard (TTCG) from a sinking vessel, were repatriated on Sunday.
Communications Minister Donna Cox made the revelation, while responding
to a question from a reporter at the Ministry of Health's virtual media briefing on Monday.
"The 32 Venezuelans were returned to Venezuela yesterday," she said.
The Coast Guard officers who were involved in the operation remain in quarantine.
Last Wednesday, officers intercepted a vessel on the south coast of
Trinidad that had crossed the closed border from Venezuela into Trinidad.
According to a statement from the TTCG, a 32 Venezuelan nationals were
taken from the vessel and placed onboard a TTCG patrol boat that was in
the vicinity.
The TTCG said the patrol boat transported the nationals to a landing
area, where they were medically examined by Ministry of Health officials
and it was determined that none of them exhibited any signs of viral
illnesses.
