• Need for a Common Script for All Indian Languages

    From aa384485@gmail.com@21:1/5 to All on Fri Apr 28 05:10:26 2017
    The existing Structure of the Script (Writing System) of Indian Languages are of two types:

    The first type being Tamil Script consists of Vowels, Consonants and Vowel-Consonants, besides Aayutham and Vowel signs.The total number of alphabets is 247 / 299 without / with Grantha Letters. About 1300 / 1400 years ago, before the introduction (the
    concept of) Vowel Signs, the shapes of Vowel Consonants were single figured, by changing slightly the basic shape of the Consonant. But, all the 247/299 shapes are to be remembered. After the introduction of Vowel Signs, the shapes of Vowel Consonants
    were of three types - sigle, double and triple figured. however, only about 37 fundamental shapes of alphabets and Vowel Signs are sufficient to be remembered. This writing system is very much explicit and simple.

    The second type of Script being other Indic Script for all Indian Languages, which is very much complicated, consisting of not only Vowels, Consonants and Vowel Consonants but also Aspirated Alphabets (Combined Alphabets) and Conjuncts (a group of
    alphabets joined together), besides Anuswara Virarga Combination and Vowel signs. The Aayutham, in Tamil, seems to have been expanded as Anuswara Visarga Combination, making the writing system more and more implicit. This type of writing system has made
    it impossible or difficult to calculate the total number of alphabets. So, there is no tabulation of total alphabets.

    The Tamil Modern Script (TMS) is derived from the existing Tamil Script (TS) with additions and alterations to suit the existing computing system and to enhance the computing skill of the languages, as noted below:
    (1) 4 missing Sonants are added,
    (2) 4 shapes of alphabets (2 vowels and 2 consonants) are modified / reshaped to become a single figure,
    (3) The Vowel Symbols are reformed / simplified, as noted below, so that all Vowel Consonants are of uniform single figured, by placing the vowel symbol on the top of alphabet just like pulli for Consonant (the Unicode Name is given in bracket):

    1. Hyphen for ஆ (AA),
    2. Forward Hyphen for இ (I),
    3. Forward Hyphen with a ring at top for ஈ (II)
    4. Backward Hyphen for உ (U),
    5. Backward Hyphen with a ring at top for ஊ (UU),
    6. Left end ring ABOVE Hyphen for எ (E),
    7. Right end ring ABOVE Hyphen for ஏ (EE),
    8. Both end ring ABOVE Hyphen for ஐ (AI),
    9. Left end ring BELOW Hyphen for ஒ (O),
    10. Right end ring BELOW Hyphen for ஓ (OO),
    11. Both end ring BELOW Hyphen for ஔ (AU)

    The Tamil Modern Script (TMS) consist of
    (1) Vowels + Ayutham - 13;
    (2) Consonants - 27;
    (3) Vowel-Consonants - 324; the total number of alphabets being (28x13=} 364; and
    (4) Vowel Symbols - 12.

    The Latin Modern Script (LMS) is nothing but the replacement of Tamilized Latin Alphabets in the Tamil Modern Script (TMS) as noted below, for Vowels and Consonants:

    The Latin Modern Script (LMS) also consists of
    (1) Vowels + Ayutham - 13;
    (2) Consonants - 27;
    (3) Vowel-Consonants - 324; the total number of alphabets being (28x13=} 364; and
    (4) Vowel Symbols - 12.

    In TMS/LMS:
    No more conjunct alphabets;
    No more implicit Anuswara Visarga combined alphabets;
    No more combined alphabets;
    No more consonant alphabets, in vowel list;
    No more combing marks; (Mc or Mn - vowel symbols only)
