Just saw a scene from Vidiyum Varai Kaathiru where he plays a police officer. Googled to know what happened to him and this thread appears. So he died in 1994?

Honored to reply to a thread that dates back all the way to 1994.

For those who do not remember him : He played villian in "Anbukku naan >adimai" starring Rajinikant.

Karate Mani claimed to be the first Tamilian to get Black Belt
(10th level) He was quite well known even before he acted with the super star. He was running a karate school and was hired to train TN police
in unarmed combat. He was quite fat and it was surprising he was an accomplished karate champ.

He had many chances to appear in movies
but confined himself to a few cameo appearances. He refused villain
roles because of his pride in Karate.
TN film makers were not willing to cast him as a hero. I don't think
they were prejudiced against his fatness. Just that TN Film world
permits complete unfounded arrogance from "hero"s and demands
complete servility from all the rest. A man with honest pride would
have a tough time. Finally the lure of money was too great and he agreed
to be bashed up by a few heros on screen. The Rajni movie was the
first one. I think he also acted as the police officer nabbing
Bakyaraj in the movie "vidiyum varai kaaththiru"

What is surprising is the actors who don't exercise and
put on weight live to ripe old age. Guys who exercise like
Muthuraman and Karate Mani die in their Fifties.

Don’t forget the movie Ranga in which he is a good guy and Rajini is a bad guy ( of course he reforms towards the end). They had several great scenes together in that movie.

He was not fat,he was very well built and attractive personality.Second, he had earned crores through his karate institute so getting lured for money through movies is total rubbish.Maybe it was good way for him to promote his Karate.
