    ChinaAs bold mission to land a probe on the dark side of the Moon

    Beijing is keeping many of the details under wraps. But this weekend, it could launch a bold mission to explore the far side of the Moon.

    China is about to be the first nation to land on the dark side of the Moon. But Beijing is being unusually secretive about the event u not even confirming its suspected launch date this weekend.

    ChinaAs National Space Administration is believed to be targeting the robotic lander at the Von Karaman crater, near the MoonAs south pole. ItAs judged to be the oldest impact crater in the entire Solar System, making it an ideal collecting ground for water ice and a rare hydrogen isotope carried on the Solar wind.

    China Preps for Launch of Historic Mission to Moon's Far Side on Friday

    China is getting set to launch the first-ever surface mission to the moon's far side.

    The robotic Chang'e 4 mission is scheduled to launch atop a Long March 3B rocket on Friday (Dec. 7) at around 1:30 p.m. EST (1830 GMT; 2:30 a.m. on Dec. 8 local China time).

    If all goes according to plan, Chang'e 4's lander-rover duo will touch down within the moon's South Pole‐Aitken (SPA) basin after a 27-day flight, then
    study both the surface and subsurface of this region.
