USENET was never run by Google in any way, shape, or form.

Google provided nothing more than a gateway between Google groups and
USENET, which it is now taking down.

Adios to all the delusional, insane and blazingly stupid Google posters.

It was great in the late 80s and early 90s but I abandoned it years ago due to the spam and looking at it now I sadly agree with Google that it needs to go. Looking at the last few pages of posts not a single one is physics related, they are all
    clearly automated spam.

Such a shame - it was great while it lasted and there is nothing as good as it now.

Only the Google interface is going away. Regular Usenet will continue on without Google, like in the 'good old days'. The automated spam is
mostly from Google, so this spam, too, will vanish along with Google. It
will make it much better for non-Google users.
