• A non-perturbative perturbation theory?

The question is whether there is a "non-perturbative" perturbation
theory for quantum field theory. By "perturbation theory", I mean
something that is grounded in asymptotic free fields (as done with
the S-matrix formulation or with treatments, like those of Bogoliubov
or Epstein-Glaser) and operators constructed from them. By
"non-perturbative", I mean a formulation of any of these types,
robust enough to also include features or results of known
non-perturbative formulations of quantum field theory; without the
need to go outside of or beyond the asymptotic free field + operators-made-from-free-fields framework.
