In case anyone is interested, D. H. Delphenich has recently made available on his blog an English translation of Frenkel's 1925 paper: On the electrodynamics of point-like electrons:
Zur Elektrodynamik punktförmiger Elektronen,” Zeit. Phys. 32 (1925), 518-534

This was written just before QM took off, but it still makes for fascinating reading in showing that important theoretical discoveries were being made within CED even then. In particular, Frenkel proposed that CED can be rewritten using complex function
theory, with the location of a point charge treated as a pole in the complex potential function. Dirac references Frenkel's paper in his 1938: paper Classical theory of radiating electrons.
