For anyone interested, Nima Arkani-Hamed gave a lecture in 2012 that includes the history of the classical radius of the electron, the distance scale at which new physics was expected ~the compton wavelength and vacuum polarization:
Nima Arkani-Hamed Lecture: Day 3, portion between 28:15 - 33:30

It turns out that new physics begins at the compton wavelength ~ 2.4x10^(-12)m, which is two orders of magnitude greater than the classical radius r_e. Also, new physics was expected at the scale of 10^(-17)m probed the recent LHC runs, but wasn't found.
I wonder if theoretical physicists are shocked over this in 2020?
