• Job opportunity for an optics person with writing skills

From edfriedmanis65@gmail.com@21:1/5 to All on Thu Nov 16 07:32:14 2017
Our team has already published two editions of a popular optics reference text with a major publisher. We are planning to produce a new edition and need help from a appropriately skilled person willing to provide new technical material. This person must
be skilled in optics and/or optical engineering.

The author will write in the style of the existing books including text, artwork, references and equations. A PDF version of the most recent edition will be provided to the author we select to guide them in matching the existing style. This is part-time
temporary work with about nine months for delivering completed manuscript material.

The person we select will receive 1/3 of the advance from the publisher (~$1,000), 1/3 of the royalties generated by the book and an associated electronic database maintained by the publisher. Plus, the author we choose will be credited as one of the
three authors of the published book. The person we choose will benefit from broad recognition within the optics community as an author of one edition of a successful series. Plans are under way for joint promotion of the book by both the publisher and a
    national professional society.

The successful candidate must have no less than 10 years of educational or work experience in optics theory or practice. The key skill required is clear exposition of solutions to optics and optical engineering problems. It is likely that the author will
contribute up to 20% of the content of the new edition (about 50 pages of finished material).

    Hi, Ed,

A third edition of PRoT, cool. Technical books don't make you rich,
but they do get your name out there, which is a big deal for a consultant.

    Cheers
