Sleep training for adults prevents depression, study finds

Undergoing cognitive behavioral sleep training, which teaches you how
to break bad habits in order to prepare your mind and body for a good
night's sleep, may help prevent depression in older adults with
insomnia, a new clinical trial has found.

    That is pretty interesting!

I guess it should make sense that traditional habits, like getting decent
sleep, would help. We're mechanical, after all. My recommendations for a
    happy old age would include:

    * stay off social media. Who needs it?
    * kill your TV. Nothing on worth watching
    * get fresh air/sunlight every day
    * cultivate meaningful friendships and relationships; get out of the house
    * get some exercise/move your bones every day

TV/internet have so little to offer these days and it's getting worse. I
met an old guy with a flip phone today and asked him about it. He had
plenty of money to afford a smart phone if he wanted one. His answer:
"anyone I want to talk to already has my number. Everyone else can fuck
    off." Sound advice.

Breaking "bad habits" may be the ticket, and getting on a schedule.

I've experienced sleep depravation on the extreme side. When I finally
went to bed, I was out for about 24 hours, then got up and ate
something, and back to bed for some 12 hours. It takes about a month
    to get back to normal.

When I work 12+ hour days for say a week or two, I'm soundly asleep in
bed but I perceive more sleep is needed.

I think you mean 'deprivation' but if it makes you feel depraved, you're probably not alone. Lack of sleep is a serious thing. We're mechanical
beings and the gears can stop turning if you don't drive right.

Worst I ever had was extreme jetlag, but that was no picnic either.

I experienced that when I was in process of exiting military, from
Germany, to Oregon, to back home. Some 3 or 4 days before reaching
home with only catnaps along the way.

    'deprivation'

Correct...may have been a spell checking error I approved of.

I use it (Twitter) for news...and limited entertainment, which is not
the same as younger ones use it for.

For instances, here is one person I follow on Twitter
