Gas Permeable Contact Lenses are contact lens that goes over the white
part of the eyes and unlike hard lens. However less oxygen reaches the
eye. Before this literally glass substitute was used. The GP lens of
today are more or less like soft lens but can break after being
exposed to rapid change of temperature ( like running under super cold
    or super hot water )
and over time they wear down. They say the lens are best kept dry for
prolong storage but leaving them dry can also make them more
break-able as the saline liquid is used. Only %11 of people who wears
    lens use them.

I use this lens because my eye problem is rare and unless I want super-old-school glasses I have to wear these lens. You barely can
notice them on your eyes but your not suppose to wear them to bed. I
have by accident and have found bateria gathering to other build up
while sleeping however at times they keep my eyes moist as well. In
the summer time on the beach they can fog ( evaporation of saline ),
so I often try to not have the sun directly at me.

I have to get two eye operations in order to stop using them. Laser is
out of the question and transplant is not so serious and even so have
    a chance of rejection.

I wore RGPs for many years without serious complications, for correction of high myopia. Following cataract surgery I can focus properly at a comfortable reading distance without corrective lenses, so I don't consider wearing contacts worth the trouble.
