• Macular edema treatment

From KenK@21:1/5 to All on Fri Nov 17 17:09:34 2017
I had been going to a local opthamologist for macular edema. He gave me two Eylea injections. As far as I know, he did nothing else. The first
injection helped quite a bit but I couldn't see any difference after the second. He said it reduced the retina swelling. He said he can't do
    anything else for me.

My main problem is gaps in the image of that eye which would make driving
and reading difficult with that eye.

Anyone know - hopefully from experience - whether anything more can be done
for this condition? A friend has the same thing and went to a retina
specialist instead. He only got one Eylea injection and his eye ended up in much the same condition as mine.

    TIA

Can't help at all, but I sympathize. My mom had a macular hole which
caused problems even after some surgery by the Doheny Eye Institute
(maybe 15 years ago) when it was under USC. Doheny and the Jules Stein Instutute (both under UCLA) are probably as good as it gets as far as
eye specialists. Are you near Los Angeles?

A few hundred miles. But I'm not fond of driving anywhere in CA,
    especially Los Angeles.

Perhaps there are similar organizations at teaching hospitals near you,
then. I've come to the conclusion that if you have a problem of ANY
complexity you're better off going to the real experts than to the local people.
