    Dentists are not the only medical professionals guilty of this. I have
    seen it in a couple of MD's I used to see.

    Mentioned my wife's root canal here and looking for a new dentist she
    ran into one like this. He had a ton of stuff he wanted to do like 3
    crowns, one to cap the root canal. The dentist she chose only capped
    the one with the root canal which was all that was needed.

    That's a long article that could be boiled down to two words "avoid over-treatment". In my experience, "No nonsense" dentists aren't all
    that hard to find, but perhaps I've just been lucky.

    As the article implies, over-treatment might be hard for the average
    dental patent to detect. If your dentist is always trying to sell you something, you might have the wrong dentist.

    I deal with this by ALWAYS getting a 2nd opinion, or even more.

    Then I compare and contrast the recommendations. One will be
    more conservative, or require less treatment. That's usually the dentist
    I will trust, both to do the needed work, and for future visits.
