I would have assumed a theraputic would, in fact, be a lot harder for the virus
to evolve it's way past than a vaccine.
In fact it's probably worth trying
against _every_ troublesome coronavirus because it screws up things they all have in common.
Furthermore selection pressure would presumably be less for
something that doesn't affect transmission.

with SARS-CoV-2 is only about 50% effective which does mean the virus
is already able to escape treatment half the time and emerge with many
more mutations because of the anti-viral.

Mutations can affect transmission as evident by the mutated Delta
variant being more transmissable.
It's not an alternative to vaccination, it's a second line of defence.
