"Neeraj leaves for Germany to take medical advice"

"Neeraj Chopra has left for Germany after winning a silver medal
in the Paris games to take medical advice regarding a possible
surgery and to decide whether to feature in the upcoming
Diaamond league meetings. "Neeraj will not return to India for
another month and a half", a family source said." 13-Aug-2024.

disregarding the other indianisms, isnt advice taken only after it has
been given? "to seek medical advice", but do others object to this
    construction?
Yes, that "take" is not idiomatic.

I presume that it is in the style of English that understands
what it means to "feature in ... league meetings."

My guess on the latter would be that he is (maybe) a speaker
    or special consultant.

[take medical advice] means (today)... get tested, get examined

in the old joke... a guy runs into a doctor at a Party,
    describes his (health) conditions....(at length),
    and asks the Doctor:
    [What should i take?]

And the doctor says: [Take (medical) advice]
