What would you like to do? Mathematically,
0/0 is undefined, so there is no correct way
to handle it. What you do is whatever is
best for your particular image data and your
particular use of that data.
Note that you can't use L'Hôpital's rule
because you don't know in what direction to
estimate the derivatives (assuming that
derivatives even make sense for your
particular image data).
