• Functional Graph Segmentation

    Hi everyone,
I'd like to have an advised eye on my thesis subject. I am supposed to make an optical functional graph recognition system that extracts the graphs and there values at a given interval to export them into a database.

Graphs similar to them are used : http://img4.hostingpics.net/pics/137279graph0.jpg http://img4.hostingpics.net/pics/841470graph1.jpg

And I'm basically going a bit insane. I went from Hough transform but there are some problems to extract all lines; therefore how am I supposed to know the range of the axis? And what to do when there are labels but no lines? OCR seems to do nice on
Matlab, except when it doesn't half the numbers correctly, but it will be hard to implement it in openCV or PHP.
And even harder: extracting curves with similar colors seem hard.

Can anyone tell me if this subject of thesis is out of reach for me or if I need to dig deeper, please ? (joined with some relevant links or documents could be helpful:p )
I need to quickly make my mind up about it or find another one.
