ICE Director Tom Homan ripped into critics of the president's
"animals" remark that he used to describe MS-13
"You've got the backs of law enforcement," Homan told President
Trump at an event in Nassau County, N.Y. on combating the MS-13
threat.

@realDonaldTrump
Today on Long Island, we were all moved to be joined by
families who have suffered unthinkable heartbreak at the hands
of MS-13. I was truly honored to be joined again by the
courageous families who were my guests at the State of the
Union...

Homan keyed into remarks from several Democrats and members of
the media who took issue with Trump calling members of the
murderous MS-13 gang "animals."
"I know you’ve been taking a hit on your comments about animals
and MS-13. But, I think you’re being kind. Animals kill for
survival, MS-13 kills for sport," Homan said.
Homan said arrests of MS-13 members have "doubled" under Trump's
leadership.
In his own remarks, Trump noted that he is well-versed in the
serious gang problems afflicting several towns in Long Island,
referencing his childhood home being in nearby Jamaica, Queens.
Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and New York Rep. Peter
King of nearby Seaford also spoke at the event.
The panel was joined by Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen
Nielsen and other local leaders including Republican U.S. Reps.
Dan Donovan of Staten Island and Lee Zeldin of Shirley.
Connell McShane reported that the congressman who represented
the area Trump visited Wednesday, Democrat Thomas Suozzi, never
received an invitation but would taken part in the forum if he
had.
