At a White House meeting, a California lawmaker thanked
President Donald Trump for his efforts to stop illegal
immigration.
Trump was hosting the California Sanctuary State Roundtable,
when he asked State Assemblywoman Melissa Melendez (R) to offer
remarks.
Melendez, of Lake Elsinore, said Trump is an "inspiration to a
lot of people" and assured him that more Californians than
expected support his plan to stop illegal immigration.

"It is a crisis," Melendez said.
"They don't want to see another Kate Steinle [incident]," she
said of her constituents.
Steinle, a young San Francisco-area woman, was shot and killed
by an illegal immigrant felon while walking on a pier with her
father.
Melendez said she sees herself and her Republican minority
colleagues in California as the answer to the Democrats'
"resistance" movement.
"This is your Republican resistance," she said.
