• Ages Request of East Puolanka Formations (lowest metalavas) in Kainuu S

From Hannu Poropudas@21:1/5 to All on Sun Jun 24 23:40:08 2018
I would like to have ages of the following metalavas:

    1. Age of the Kaivoniitty Member in Pyöreasuo Formation in Honkajärvi Group ?

    2. Age of the Nurmela Formation in Honkajärvi Group ?

    3. Age of the Nyrhioja Memeber in Vihantiselkä Formation in Kurkikylä Group ?

    4. Age of the Nyrhioja Memeber in Vihantiselkä Formation in Kurkikylä Group ?

    5. Age of the Matinvaara Formation in Kurkikylä Group ?

(There is one old and very inaccurtate age determination
of the Matinvaara Fromation, 2271 +- 93 Ma, mentioned in Laajoki, K. 1991, (about geology of kainuu Schist Belt), if I rememeber right
and one very uncertain more recent age determination, 2400 Ma +- ? Ma.

This +- ? could mean even +- 100 Ma inaccuracy, in Huhma H. et al. 2018. (Monograph), Geol. Soc. Surv. of Finland, Bul. 405.)

This Matinvaara Formation (metalava) above and below of which there exist diamictites (dropstones, glacial time marks) is important to have its
    accurate age.

Old very inaccurate whole rock Pb-Pb Matinvaara Fm. age determination

    2271 +- 93 Ma

is said to be in the reference (Strand K. references):

Sakko Matti. 1983. "announcement of the Isotope Geology Division of
the Geological Survey of Finland". 1983.

But this reference seems not exist ?
(I did not found it at least from the net with help of
    Google, or
    Google Scholar, or
    GTK Hakku etc. databases)?

Laajoki K. 1991. mention that 2270 Ma is smallest possible age but no explanation?

I must conlude at the moment that there does not exist proper age determination for the Matinvaara Formation (metalavas) of Kurkikylä Group.

Age period 2400 Ma - 2300 Ma is reference writers estimation for all these regolits.

There does not exist proper age determination of these regoliths.
    Ages are from Russian side: 2453 +- 42 Ma - 2330 +- 36 Ma,
(first is Sm-Nd age determination and second is Rb-Sr age determination, not so reliable)

This +- ? could mean even +- 100 Ma inaccuracy, in Huhma H. et al. 2018.
(Monograph), Geol. Soc. Surv. of Finland, Bul. 405.)

This Matinvaara Formation (metalava) above and below of which there exist
diamictites (dropstones, glacial time marks) is important to have its
    accurate age.

Old very inaccurate whole rock Pb-Pb Matinvaara Fm. age determination

    2271 +- 93 Ma

is said to be in the reference (Strand K. references):

Sakko Matti. 1983. "announcement of the Isotope Geology Division of
the Geological Survey of Finland". 1983.

But this reference seems not exist ?
(I did not found it at least from the net with help of
    Google, or
    Google Scholar, or
    GTK Hakku etc. databases)?

Laajoki K. 1991. mention that 2270 Ma is smallest possible age but no explanation?

Age of Matinvaara Formation in Huhma H. et al 2018 was given

    2400 Ma +- ?,

this means that ? = this is concluded age by Huhma H.,
(this is not directly measured age from Matinvaara Fm. and there is not detail explanation about this by Huhma H. ?)

On the other hand Laajoki K. 1991 concluded (not more closely explanated by Laajoki K.) that
age of Matinvaara Formation is greater than 2271 Ma
(possibly concluded from 2271+-93 Ma with Laajoki K. knowledge ?, and this age is measured)

Maybe I could, with certain uncertaintity, guess that this age could be in the range (?)

    2271 Ma < age of Matinvaara Formation < 2400 Ma +- ?

I must conlude at the moment that there does not exist proper age determination
for the Matinvaara Formation (metalavas) of Kurkikylä Group.

    CONCLUSION:

Age of the Hetehongikko Member is between 2400 Ma - 2300 Ma
or about 2350 Ma. Physical weathering (regolith).

This was clearly in the reference:
    2. Sturt B. A. Melezhik V. A. and Ramsay D. M. 1994.
Early Proterozoic Regolith at Pasvik, NE Norway: Palaeoenvironmental Implications for the Baltic Shield.

    Page 630, Fig. 10).
    Pages 621, 624, 627, 630 / Fig. 10.

The Hetehongikko Member is in the Laanhongikko Formation in the
Kurkikylä Group in the Kainuu Schist Belt in Finland.

This Member contains regolith dated above reference.

This about 2.35 Ga seems also be the approximate age of
