BC557 & BC547 are subdivided into A, B and C types. A has low hfe (about
250) , B higher (450) and C the highest (600). Of course you need models for each of them and here they are :

I used them intesively and they prove to be reliable in all cases (AC, DC
and TRAN) as long as frequencies are far below the radio-range of course.
