    They need to develop string theory sufficiently to be able to listen in inter-dimensionally.

    The whole point about string theory is that the extra dimensions are all tightly wrapped around the particles. You may get extra dimensions, but
    they don't go anywhere.

    Even if they are as far technologically as we are now, much of their transmissions would
    look like white noise.
    Maybe there are so many alien transmissions the microwave background is made up of it :-)
    Our equipment will become more sensitive and maybe we can then receive
    and decode some of their music and movies.
    If aliens were a bit clever they would not transmit that they are there, the risk of
    US invading and war mongering in their worlds would be too big.

    And the Intergalactic Travel Agency has warned about traveling to planet Earth as it is infested with human beans
    and those are considered dangerous.
    Not even mentioning deceases like COVID spreading etc.

    So they will lie low...
    They may watch our teefee movies and news... and see the dangers...
