Zero Hedge is right wing nonsense written for people who fancy fatuous
right righnt-wing propaganda - and Cursitor Doom pretty much defines
    their target market.

Donald Trump - who invents his "facts" as he goes - is much more to
Cursitor Doom's taste, but you don't want a fantasist running a country.

The dire US Covid casualties are evidence of what can go wrong.

Donald Trump was addict to self-delusion before he got into government.

Dumb people aren't good at acquiring expertise and experience - John
Larkin does seem to be a case in point - and getting it doesn't make
them dumber, though it may make them less likely to agree with John
Larkin, which he may imagine to be evidence that they are dumb.

Most of it is river delta, with lots of --now dry-- surface below
sea level. It's necessary to keep pumping to keep dry feet. It

Don't be silly. It's the water that you hold back, not the wind.
You could do it, if the infrastructure was there. But it takes
many years to build all that, and a lot of determination from
politicians and regulators. That doesn't work in the US. All
they seem to be interested in is meddling in the affairs of
foreign countries and lining their own pockets.

Another thing is that you seem to think a couple of kids with
toy spades could do it. Not.

They don't have to worry about rainfall filling all the valleys and
canyons either. They did have a tornado in 1674.

The Netherlands reminds me of Louisuiana, where another foot or two of rainwater doesn't make much difference.

Weather’s better in the summer, food’s not nearly as good. Not sure about the fauna—gators and Eurocrats are both real ornery.

Most of it is river delta, with lots of --now dry-- surface below sea

Don't be silly. It's the water that you hold back, not the wind.

It's different when the water comes straight down out of the sky, over thousands of square miles.

You could do it, if the infrastructure was there. But it takes

Another thing is that you seem to think a couple of kids with

Kids with plastic buckets could build up beaches enough to compensate
for rising sea levels, around 2mm per year.

They don't have to worry about rainfall filling all the valleys and
canyons either. They did have a tornado in 1674.

Not exactly true. I was living in Nijmegen in 1995 when the Rhine got
very high (from rain and snow melt even further inland in Germany).

It provoked a river-Delta plan, which was still building stuff when I
    left in 2011.
The Netherlands reminds me of Louisiana, where another foot or two of rainwater doesn't make much difference.

But several extra feet start drowning people. The average rainfall in
the Netherlands isn't all that high, but it's peak rainfall that kills
people - perhaps only once in several hundred years, but those events
    get remembered by the survivors.

The Delta Works aren't aimed at keeping a hurricane out - they just help
cope with the flooding that the hurricane brings with it, from storm
surges and very heavy rain. They don't do anything against tornados.

The equivalents in Florida would still have saved quite a few lives.

works, for as long as a reasonable level of civilisation persists.

    Jeroen Belleman

Are there subsidence problems? That's what long-term pumping will do.

Of course there are. That why a lot of the Netherlands is below
sea-level.The Dutch have been draining polders since they've had
windmills to pump the water out, and they know all about subsidence. At Kinderdike there's been a lot of it, and you get series of a dozen or so windmills to lift the water high enough to get it sea level - the fairly
crude water pumping mechanism involved can't lift the water all that far
    in one hit.

So.... if it winds up like New Orleans after Katrina there'll be no human life remaining? I guess you'd be right!

The Netherlands has a long history of flood disasters. None of them has
killed much of the population, and civilisation keeps on persisting.

New Orleans did survive Katrina - the lower classes had a rough time,
but the private hospitals for the rich kept on working fine.

Naomi Klein and her husband were there covering the story, and ended up
in such a hospital after a car accident. They didn't see any flood
    victims in there.

Don't be silly. It's the water that you hold back, not the wind.

It's different when the water comes straight down out of the sky, over thousands of square miles.

You could do it, if the infrastructure was there. But it takes
many years to build all that, and a lot of determination from
politicians and regulators. That doesn't work in the US. All
they seem to be interested in is meddling in the affairs of
foreign countries and lining their own pockets.

Another thing is that you seem to think a couple of kids with
toy spades could do it. Not.

Kids with plastic buckets could build up beaches enough to compensate
for rising sea levels, around 2mm per year.

Sand erodes. Dunes behind the beaches can sustain enough vegetation to stabilise heaps of mostly sand, but maintaining and raising that kind of coastal barrier requires rather more than kids with plastic buckets.

The Dutch are good at that too, but it doesn't generate eye-candy for
    tourists.

They don't have to worry about rainfall filling all the valleys and
canyons either. They did have a tornado in 1674.

The Netherlands reminds me of Louisuiana, where another foot or two of
    rainwater doesn't make much difference.

Most of it is river delta, with lots of --now dry-- surface below
sea level. It's necessary to keep pumping to keep dry feet. It
works, for as long as a reasonable level of civilisation persists.

    Jeroen Belleman

Are there subsidence problems? That's what long-term pumping will do.

New Orleans keeps sinking. As does a lot of the California Central
    Valley.

Oh yes! Newly reclaimed land can subside by several meters as it
dries. It's not so much of a problem in the sense that it's expected.
The Dutch have been doing this for centuries now, so there is some
    experience.

    Jeroen Belleman

Weter level control has always been very precise here in the Netherlands
I have worked on that for a while years back, designed some stuff like water level measurement equipment
Amsterdam is several meters below sea level, and when I grew up there on the west side of the city
at the end of the street there was a ship-elevator, where the farmers could bring their boats with produce from the lower water level farm lands into the higher level canals in the city for selling.
There are water level sensors everywhere, all monitored by a central computer, and big pumping stations to keep the level.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flood_control_in_the_Netherlands
https://www.agv.nl/en/our-tasks/het-juiste-waterpeil/the-correct-water-levels/ Water levels for farming are very precisely measured and controlled 24/7 here, a bit too low and the crops die, a bit too high and the crops start rotting.
If you drive around you see measurement points everywhere in the small canals, also for sewage pipes etc.. those sewage puts have water level meters too and huge pumps.

Now you come to mention it, there is some truth in that!

Check out this clip, it's hilarious:

Even Bill Sloman will enjoy it! ;->

I should be constitutional to require that fake images and videos be
    easily identified.

I agree 100%. You need the *Truth* to make informed judgements
    about the
future direction of your country and whilst the fakes I linked to are
obviously not intended to be taken seriously, it would be trivial to
contrive something very much more subtle and sinister which
    could easily
influence voters. Deepfakes are God's gift to the Left.

They don't need them. Donald Trump and J.D. Vance self-satirise to the
point where it would be hard to satirise them.

It is disturbing to note that Scared Ketchup ai-fakes
Trump and Boebert makes more sense then the real life ones.
Most of the sneers that Bobo gives out are hilariously funny
and witty. Trump speak in full sentences or reacts in a sensible
way to the situation at hand.
I have proposed to SK that Trump should fell silent from time to time,
or speak as confused as he does in real rallies,
and Bobo gets him on the right trail.

Childless cat ladies and Haitian immigrants eating dogs and cats do come
to mind, and these clearly weren't deep-faked.

I've seen the original documentary ^H^H^H^H^H^H^H video this
was based on. In the same breath they told that immigrants get
    5000 dollars of food stamps.
It was based on a story of a lady that had lost her cat.
The story that she had found the cat back three days later
in her basement gets much less publicity.
Reportedly she apologized to her neighbor who was accused
of eating the cat. Well done! :-(

Remember the "Chinese spy balloon". The average USamerican
didn't realize that the US army has shot down the device over
sea and analysed it and confirmed that it was indeed a weather
    balloon.

It's more difficult to build a wall that will keep a hurricane out.

The Delta Works aren't aimed at keeping a hurricane out - they just help >>cope with the flooding that the hurricane brings with it, from storm
surges and very heavy rain. They don't do anything against tornados.

The equivalents in Florida would still have saved quite a few lives.

The USA doesn't seem to realize as a nation that climate change
is the reason for the increased severity of hurricanes.

Hurricanes in the USA are neither more frequent nor more deadly than
in the past, even with a thousand times more instrumentation.

The deadliest hurricane in US history was the great Galveston storm of September 1900. Deaths are estimated around 10,000.

They should be grateful for the Chinese who have switched
to electric vehicles for a great part and working to phase
    out fossil fuels.

They are building about a coal power plant per week.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coal_in_China#/media/File:China-energy-consumption-by-source.svg

Imposing 100% tariffs on EV's from China prevent all but the well
to do from switching to EV's.

People in the US and europe are losing interest in ev's.

It's scary to think about what sorts of idiots do indeed occupy the >>>>>> highest places in government. Politics is one of many professions
where more expertise and experience make people dumber.

It is just US Military Industrial Complex puppets
they do not care about Americans at all.
Making war everywhere, supporting genocide by youws

Massive flooding causes millions without power, many dead
polliticsians flying sightseeing missions above it...
When we in the Netherlands had massive flooding many years ago
    we build the 'Delta works':
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delta_Works

A better way to spend your tax money than making guns and
    killing people.

It's more difficult to build a wall that will keep a hurricane out.

The Delta Works aren't aimed at keeping a hurricane out - they just help >>> cope with the flooding that the hurricane brings with it, from storm
surges and very heavy rain.

Climate change doesn't seem to make hurricanes more frequent. Large area
of warm sea surface - hotter than 26.5C - make those that do show up
    more powerful.

The deadliest hurricane in US history was the great Galveston storm of September 1900. Deaths are estimated around 10,000.

Nobody warned anybody that they should get to higher ground. Modern
meteorology make hurricanes less deadly, because people mostly get told
to get out in time to save their lives

They should be grateful for the Chinese who have switched
to electric vehicles for a great part and working to phase
    out fossil fuels.

They are building about a coal power plant per week.

Modern, roughly 40% efficient coal plants, replacing old 8% efficient
coal plants. It actually reduces CO2 emissions, and the plants take a
lot longer than week to build - the planning behind that program goes
back a long way. They are also producing about 90% of the world's solar
cells, and putting in solar farms all over the place.

Imposing 100% tariffs on EV's from China prevent all but the well
to do from switching to EV's.

People in the US and Europe are losing interest in ev's.

Not so that you'd notice. They are cheaper to run than internal
combustion cars, and while they don't have the "latest thing" cachet any
more, they are lot cheaper than they used to be.
