Returning after a long absence from Usenet.
I remembered that I have a block account with Tweaknews, checked to see
that my account is still valid and that I've hardly made a dent in the
10GB block. I installed Thunderbird and configured it to use news.tweaknews.eu but haven't been able to download the newsgroup list.
I'm posting this via eternal-september. Is anyone using Tweaknews? Is
the server down? How has it been performing recently?

Right click on the Tweaknews news server name in TB's folders pane, and
click on "Subscribe". A box will open with all the newsgroups available. Click on "Refresh" to update the list. Then just tick the box of the NGs
you want to subscribe to.

I don't use Tweaknews, but can't see why TB should deal with it any differently to other news servers.

Oh, I know the procedure for getting the newsgroups list and subscribing to selected ones. It's how I posted the question via news.eternal-september.org.
The problem is with Tweaknews. It won't download the list. It seems their newsserver is down. I've been trying at intervals for the past 12 hours. Thunderbird just wouldn't connect to the server.
I submitted a query to their support several hours ago. No action yet apart from the acknowledgement.

It could just be the latest international computer crash. There's nearly
a page on it my local newspaper.
"The IT outage was caused by a fault in the "Falcon sensor" used by the US-based cybersecurity provider CrowdStrike".
It seems to have messed up a lot of services around the world.
