• Reduce clutter

I like things to have "their own place"; stuff left on my worksurfaces
tends to quickly become clutter (and require periodic clean-up).

The "Dollar Store" (generic handle, not endorsing any particular vendor)
is an excellent place for inexpensive "containers".

    <https://mega.nz/file/NnBDSCxK#6m_ySyaZdv1YDfh-oM88B7pl48OqF0ladn-s7QjrXQ0>

Tea light holders (set of 4) are just large enough to hold the "little parts" from whatever I've recently disassembled (no fun hunting for small parts
on a desktop covered with kit!).

Old Fashioned has enough heft to sit still as it serves up a collection
of USB cables (mini, micro, USB3, etc.).

[We also keep one on the kitchen counter, adjacent to the stove, to hold
the polish and other bits required to keep the stovetop clean.]

And, a cobalt tumbler is a lot classier than some shitty plastic or
    cardboard "pencil cup"!

Sadly, as (seemingly) with everything *else*, SWMBO lays claim to many
of my finds -- and, by that time, the store's "limited supply" has
often been exhausted! So, buy multiples of whatever you choose! :>

I use Danish Butter Cookie cans for small parts and keys and such. The
problem is that they come with stuff inside so you have to empty them.

On my desks at home and at work I keep pencils and alligator clips and
such in 500 ml glass beakers. You can see things.

I love the big blue Uline plastic bins. Every project gets one.

Electronics is messy, physically and data-wise.

The "Dollar Store" is a great place to find "containers" and
other objects that can be repurposed as such.

I originally went there looking for a "pencil cup"
    (I keep red/black/blue ballpoints, a lead holder, 2 Xacto
knives, a fine and ultrafine Sharpie, mechanical pencil,
#0 phillips, "pot tweaker", etc. in such a cup at each
workstation). I figured $1 for a pencil cup was a
    reasonable price.

I found a few. Then, realized the cobalt tumblers were *so*
much more elegant looking -- and, exactly the same price!

When I needed a place to store oft-used cables (USB, audio,
video, etc.), I returned and settled on the Old Fashioneds.

The tea light cups were just serendipitous and did a lot
to getting the small parts off my work tables!

I am dismayed that I didn't buy other, larger (plastic,
sealable, "pencil box" -- remember those?) containers over
the years. E.g., I have spare feed rollers for one of my
scanners stored in one. Another would be great to organize
my earbuds. And, another for the spare Ptouch tapes. One
for the "luggage tag" laminating film (to label the black,
nondescript cases that everything comes in). etc.

Altoids (and the like) tins are great for right angle USB
M-F A adapters, spare Xacto blades, thumb drives, etc.
(they are also ferrous so you can adhere them to "things"
with sheet magnets to keep them out of the way).
    Another could find use

I think you missed the joke that those butter-cookie tins are quite
    often re-purposed as a sewing kit ...

No. *Ours* is a sewing kit (SWMBO had it before we met; I've never
purchased "cookies in a tin", preferring to bake, instead).

*My* sewing kit harkens back to my days as a Boy Scout -- small
and compact with tiny bobbins of thread.

[I use one of our machines for any sewing, nowadays. I have
NO patience for "needle and thread" (I have to make a storage
case -- padded fabric -- for my MIDI keyboard... way too much
    "seam" to do otherwise!)]

Quite a long winded way to say "oh." ;)

I think you missed the point. It wasn't "Oh" but, rather,
"No, I didn't miss your point".
