The problem is that without a scientific education in some depth, the qualifications to distinguish reasonable explanations from conspiracy -
most academics are left wing, because the gummint pays their salaries,
most career scientists and technologosts are right wing, because they
know what works - and the gummint doesn't pay their salaries - what
position you take depends ( as my rarely so candid leftard green vegan
sister remark 'on which websites you read' (she listens to the BBC and reads the Guardian so she can be well misinformed).
Toss in some Marxist rhetoric against the evil capitalists making money,
and you have the Anti-Science anti-Vax movement. It's not right wing.
It's not left wing, Its just shit stirring by the people who used to be

The tragedy is that many of them (but not all) are in fact *true*.
E.g the gummint aren't injecting mind control chips into your brain with Covid vaccines, they don't need to. They have the BBC and the Guardian
for all that. They are however lying to you about climate change, immigration, economics, renewable energy and net zero, and in general anything they take a political stance on.

If they demonstrated competence in solving the problem, then they'd have demonstrated that they would likely be competent to solve other problems
and therefore be eminently re-electable. The trouble is none of the
parties shows any competence and even where they do start to work on a problem, the end point is so far down the line that the next government cancels the work on it or takes the credit for the result.

I can well understand that people with cancer unfortunately die. The
time of their dying may coincide with other things. Christmas, for
example. Some people with cancer die soon after Christmas, but only an
utter lunatic would claim that Christmas causes cancer to flare up.

This is typical rightard nonsense. The difference between left wingers and right-winger is that left-wingers think that society can changed to make it work better, and right-wingers think that most change is for the worse, so they prefer as little as
Academics are aware of how much society has changed, mostly for the better, while career scientists and technologists concentrate on the stuff they can change, and don't want to have to pay attention to anything they don't have under their control.it as fuel can keep on making money that way).

Anybody who "used to be be in the Communist Party" is so old now that most of them are dead. I know one survivor, and he's neither anti-science or anti-vax. He's actually a reader at Edinburgh University, and perfectly sensible.

Not that I've noticed. Rightards don't seem to understand the scientific basis of climate change, and are qullible suckers for the lyig propaganda that claims that it is happening (and the people making money out of digging up fossil carbon and selling
The same people tell that you that burning fossil carbon delivers cheaper energy that renewable sources, though this stopped being ture more than a decade ago.

Look at UKIP...
UKIP was an attention-getting device use by Nigel Farage and Boris Johnson to get them the column inches they craved.
Nobody should have taken either of those clowns seriously, and the consequences have been pretty horrible. The UK was in a customs union with it's major trading partners and now it isn't. Silly move.

I think most people would see that as a statement that the site supports >> right wing views.
What does that matter? There are people on the Left who are equally concerned about the vaccines. I recall Dave Plowman being equally dismissive and contemptuous before the clot-shot killed him a short

Did it ?. I wondered what happened to him.
He did actually have prostate cancer, and quite advanced
from what I remember, so I think it is more likely that that
was his real medical problem.

With the conservative party in charge of the department that publishes
the statistics, you can expect them to be saying that.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_European_countries_by_average_wage
The average monthly wage in the UK is 3138 euro.
In Germany it is 4625 euro.
The UK may be catching up - at the moment - but it is a long way behind.
Germany has been investing more per worker for a very long time. Back
when Thatcher was being rude about the productivity of UK workers,
somebody checked out productivity as function of capital investment per >worker, and the UK workers backed up by German levels of capital
investment were more productive than their German counterparts - but
there weren't many of them. UK capitalist didn't like investing money in
making their workers more productive and only did it when there was a
lot of money to be made.
