• The REAL cause of the disastrous Maui fires

From Flyguy@21:1/5 to All on Wed Sep 20 12:21:36 2023
No, it was NOT caused by climate change, Hurricane Dora, or drought, but by a very strong mountain wave, which was predictable and could have been forewarned with cheap meteorological stations:
    https://cliffmass.blogspot.com/2023/08/the-real-cause-of-maui-wildfire-disaster.html

"The Maui event was the result of a high amplitude mountain wave and strong, dry downslope flow on the western slopes of the mountains of West Maui. The mountain wave was the result of strong approaching flow and a stable layer near the crest level of
    the Maui Mountains.

Strong dry winds support fire and result in rapid movement of the flame front, as well as moving embers ahead. The winds could well have started the fire by damaging infrastructure. As noted in my earlier blog, a huge reserve of dry, flammable grasses
    was in place.

This event was not the result of climate change, Hurricane Dora, or an extended drought. It resulted from an unusually intense mountain wave/downslope windstorm produced by a fairly rare convergence of conditions."

Climate change is a 'rare convergence of conditions.'

Root cause is the aftermath of industrial farming that took place there.

There's not a lot of difference between a a and Sewage Sweeper when it comes to foolish off-topic posting. We'd be much happier if they both shut up.

We wouldn't be any better informed. Both of them are too obviously insane to be ever taken seriously.

Lahaina and Paradise burned bacause they were tinderboxes. Any kid
playing with matches could have burned either to rubble. A dinky fire department might have stopped one fire, but embers, or a wall of fire,
from a badly managed field or forest start too many fires to put out.

Flammable cities will eventually burn. As forests eventully burn in
    most places.
