Elon Musk announced plans to implement a monthly fee for all users of his social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
Made during a livestream with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the decision is in response to Twitter's dwindling U.S. ad revenue and aims to combat the proliferation of bots amplifying hate speech.
Musk believes charging for usage will deter bot account creation as each would require a unique credit card registration. The fee would be less than the current $8 charged for X Premium subscribers.
