• Trump on Putin

From Joe Gwinn@21:1/5 to All on Tue Mar 22 20:21:35 2022
In the US, there has been a lot of isn't-it-awful coverage about what
Trump said about Putin at CPAC two days after the Ukraine invasion
    began.

I don't know how it's being presented in Europe, but the sound-bite
coverage in the US didn't make any sense, given Trumps (admittedly
abrasive) personality, so I looked the speech up on C-Span, to see the
    full quote and context.

Here is the specific clip: .<https://www.c-span.org/video/?c5003440/pres-trump-cpac-our-leaders-dumb-affirms-putin-smart>

And C-Span's blurb: 'Former Pres. Trump at CPAC: "Our Leaders Are
    Dumb"; Affirms Putin is "Smart"

Former Pres. Trump talks about calling Russian Pres. Putin "smart." He criticizes NATO nations for not being smart & criticizes sanctions,
calling them "a pretty weak statement." He goes on to say that the
"real problem is our leaders are dumb." '

And here is the whole 1.5 hour speech. Note it has a transcript

Yep! Since long before the Internet. The organization is biased, but at
    least they include government sources.

Used to be we could use the mute button. Nowadays, given digital media,
much less wading through stuff. Also more horse's mouth stuff is
    available.

In Europe, no one takes Trump seriously now - his comments can be viewed
as light-hearted entertainment without Europeans constantly having to
remind themselves that he is not just a professional moron with no
filters, he was also the POTUS. So his comments on Putin and Ukraine
were shown on the news here in Norway as a little extra - showing that
    some things never change.

Basically, he was saying "I'm great, and really smart, and won the
election, which was stolen, and everyone else is stupid, and my friend
Putin proved it by taking Ukraine". In theory, he was talking about
Putin's unjustified (arguably not unprovoked, but definitely
unjustified) invasion of Ukraine. In practice, he was, as always,
talking about his favourite subject - himself.

(One thing to remember, in fairness to Trump, is that these comments
were made at the very start of the invasion when we knew little about
what was going on, and we hadn't seen the level of brutality and
    downright evil methods since then.)

Trump is worth more than this troll's sleazy slave-trading country...

Trump's net worth is uncertain, but at best he's worth less than 10% of Norway's sovereign wealth fund.

Norway only became an independent country in 1905, long after slave-trading had gone out of fashion. Residents of the areas that finally became Norway probably did go in for some slave trading - no maritime European country didn't but they weren't
    famous for it.

Trump value as human being is negligible - down there with John Doe's. He may be a more famous creep, but he's still a creep.
