No, you don't have to do ANYTHING. Personally, I know that Ukraine resistance will just get more people killed than necessary, but it DOES give me pleasure to see Russian tanks and aircraft getting destroyed.

There's nothing patriotic about choosing sides between Russia and the Ukraine.

The Russian regime is a corrupt bunch of thieves, and Zelensky got the job of running the Ukraine by promising to root out corruption (where he has had some success). American national interest isn't really involved Trump did try to pressure Zelensky to
set up a bogus investigation into Joe and Hunter Biden, and didn't get anywhere, so somebody who took Trump seriously might have a slightly different point of view.

There is an international interest in having as many honest governments around as possible, but there nothing patriotic in that, unless perhaps you choose to think about yourself as a citizen of the world as well as a citizen of a particular country.

I have seem some propaganda pieces by little people who know how to use media editors on a computer. Like the one that claims to have shut down a Russian helicopter. That's not on any major media outlets. The helicopter doesn't try to evade the missile. The camera is perfectly positioned. Looks fake.

Have you seen the Sky News reporters being fired on? They keep yelling "JOURNALIST". Considering the Western media, ESPECIALLY Sky News, has been bashing Russia, that's like saying "SHOOT ME!"

I sure do like seeing some news that isn't centered on America. They are not all bashing us, but they are all trying to communicate. Love it!

Not that John Doe shows any sign of wanting to reason with anybody.

He has snipped whatever it was he objected to - eternal september shows that my post started with "There's nothing patriotic about choosing sides between Russia and the Ukraine" which is a tolerably reasonable assertion, and not in any way factually
    incorrect.

Instead he posted "BWAAAHAHAAA!!!" which isn't any kind of reasoned statement, and then goes on to recycle his usual collection of irrational abuse culled from previous threads.

He does seem to be stupid enough that he might think that this might be some kind of "reasonable" behavior, or maybe he's simply insane.

The idea Americans must fall in line with Deep State propaganda is LUDICROUS.

Where is the Deep State propaganda?

The idea that there's any "Deep State" propaganda in circulation is even more ludicrous.

The idea Americans must support every foreign war halfway around the globe our government gets involved in is LUDICROUS.

The Americans aren't "supporting the war". They are providing a certain amount of military support to the Ukraine which the US congress voted to provide a few years ago, and Donald Trump tried to hold up in the hope of pressuring Zelensky into setting
up some kind of bogus investigation into Joe and Hunter Biden

    Ukraine is corrupt.

Ukraine wasn't corrupt enough to go along with Trump. Zelensky was elected on the basis that he would try to make the Ukraine less corrupt, and he does seem to have made some progress.

Our involvement there is just an attempt to force Russia into a corner.

What kind of "corner" would that be? John Doe isn't going to be able to tell us - that's for sure.

This foulmouthed slimy bastard Always Wrong couldn't care less about America, it couldn't care less about defending our own borders.

Decadent Linux User Numero Uno isn't actually "always wrong". The late unlamented krw used to like to call him that, but krw wasn't much of an authority on getting stuff right (as opposed to far-right). DLUNU seems to have done more about defending the
US borders than most people who post here, and a lot more than you seem to have done, but you'd have to know something about technology to be aware of that, and you don't know squat.

Jan is well known to be Dutch. He claims that he is now living in Friesland, but doesn't claim to be Fries - or to speak Friesian.

That's backwards. The Olympics are a way for countries to prove who is the baddest without getting into a war.

It's not a competition between countries, but rather between individual athletes. They compete as the best athletes their country can come up with, but that just a process to winnow down the competitors to a number that can fit on a track.

    It's nondestructive competition between adversaries.

It's not all that non-destructive. Sport injuries happen a lot at that level.

Yeah, looks like the people responsible for the missile were filming it. They probably were looking for a good propaganda shot.

I read that Germany has reversed their position and are now sending all manner of weapons to Ukraine. I hope it makes a difference. One of the downsides of having a large force, is exposing yourself to enemy fire. If Ukraine can take out more aircraft,
that will hurt Russia very badly and make it harder for them to advance. Without good air cover, it is much easier to attack the ground forces.

aircraft, that will hurt Russia very badly and make it harder for them to advance. Without good air cover, it is much easier to attack the ground forces.
Both are necessary. Stingers for air and Javelins for ground. As i said in another post, they should now have thousands of them, but only reported hundreds of hits. Javelins are reported to have 90% kill rate. So, they should still have 90% unused.
What are they waiting for, regarding the siting ducks (tanks) 15 miles north of Kiev.
Are you volunteering to take a Javelin or two to the tanks and see if you can hit one before they kill you?

Yes, i'll do that in Taiwan. I won't fight in Ukraine, but perhaps Taiwan.

Did you know that Javelins are mini-smart drones? Plenty of time to evacuate before onboard motor ignition.

The reports I have read from military analysts is that the Ukrainians
are targeting vehicles at the front of the columns, bottlenecks in the
road (such as bridges), and supply vehicles. There is simply no need to
bother with the vehicles in the middle - if the road in front is
blocked, their fuel supplies (which apparently were limited to start
with) are blown up, and the surrounding landscape is forest and swamp,
then they are not going anywhere. The column has hardly moved in a week
as the soldiers get more and more demoralised and it is dawning on them
that this is not the military exercise, walk-over, or liberation mission
they had been told. It makes sense to keep their missiles for when they
are really needed - Russian advances in other parts of the country have
    been more successful.

The Ukrainians may have logistic challenges themselves. European
countries have supplied large numbers of weapons, but it might not be a
simple matter to get these to the front lines.

Yes, i guess Javelins are more expensive than vehicles. They are USD$200k each. We worry about soldiers running away with them than from them.

You could read my Ph.D. thesis which lists some 900 words of assembler for a PDP8.
I wrote quite a bit more Fortran4 to realise a Fetcher-Powell non-linear multi-parameter least squares curve-fitting program. The thesis spells out how it worked - I came up with some minor variations on the Fletcher-Powell to get it to converge faster

No I do not give shit about your baxandal toiletpaper.

Not the usual reacton. Jim Williams did very well out of that circuit (Linear Technology application notes AN45, AN49, AN51, AN55, AN61, AN65) though he didn't realise that Peter Baxandall had invented it.

That was in 2016, and that particular prosecutor had failed to prosecute some particularly flagrant crimes (none of them involving the Bidens, despite Trumps claims). Zelensky got elected in 2019 as an anti-corruption campaigner, and has cleaned up the
place to some extent (which may be part of the reason that Putin wants to get rid of him).

Yeah, looks like the people responsible for the missile were
    filming it.
They probably were looking for a good propaganda shot.

I read that Germany has reversed their position and are now
    sending all m
anner of weapons to Ukraine. I hope it makes a difference. One of
the downsides of having a large force, is exposing yourself to
enemy fire. If Ukraine can take out more aircraft, that will hurt
Russia very badly and make it harder for them to advance. Without
good air cover, it is much easier to attack the ground forces.

Both are necessary. Stingers for air and Javelins for ground. As
i said in another post, they should now have thousands of them,
but only reported hundreds of hits. Javelins are reported to have
90% kill rate. So, they should still have 90% unused. What are
they waiting for, regarding the siting ducks (tanks) 15 miles
    north of Kiev.

A Puff Dragon to fly over and take them out for many many hundreds
of thousands of dollars cheaper. And then they would stil retain

You probably have to go look up what a Puff Dragon is though now.

Yeah, looks like the people responsible for the missile were
    filming
it. They probably were looking for a good propaganda shot.

I read that Germany has reversed their position and are now
    sending a
ll manner of weapons to Ukraine. I hope it makes a difference. One
of the downsides of having a large force, is exposing yourself to
enemy fire. If Ukraine can take out more aircraft, that will hurt
Russia very badly and make it harder for them to advance. Without
good air cover, it is much easier to attack the ground forces.
Both are necessary. Stingers for air and Javelins for ground.
    As i said
in another post, they should now have thousands of them, but only
reported hundreds of hits. Javelins are reported to have 90% kill
rate. So, they should still have 90% unused. What are they
waiting for, regarding the siting ducks (tanks) 15 miles north of
    Kiev.
Are you volunteering to take a Javelin or two to the tanks and
    see if you
can hit one before they kill you?

Yes, i'll do that in Taiwan. I won't fight in Ukraine, but
    perhaps Taiwan.

Did you know that Javelins are mini-smart drones? Plenty of time
to evacuate before onboard motor ignition.

There are missiles with hover time, but the Javelin is not one. It
is meant to be fired at a SELECTED target, and that is what it takes
out. It travels up and then down into the target to add even more
kinetic force on impact and detonation.

The Tomahawk Cruise missile is capable of limited hover time and
    limited target redesignation.

Ther are high altitude plane launched missiles which can fly for a
while before a target selection is made.

No need though... those are air to air. This situation only would
need immediate strike packages like Hellfire missiles and Javelins.

And John Doe's idea of "reasoning" is to post a few lines of irrelevant abuse after snipping the text that upset him.

That is an excellent example of freaking lunacy. John Doe sends himself up with every post he makes.

So John Doe self-identifies as an 80-year-old cannibal leftist? And John Doe has moved from "rooting for the Ukraine" to "routing for war".

Nothing in his post identifies anybody else. The bit that I've snipped does include my name, but nothing that suggests that it's more than John Doe's reflex cut-and-paste recycled abuse.

His next post uses much the same line to react to an equally unidentified post from Decadent Linux User Numero Uno, with much the same cut-and-paste recycled abuse.

This does look very like obsessive-compulsive behavior. There are supposed to be medications that can reduce that, but John Doe is much too paranoid to ever take any of them.

There seem to be eight different drugs, with different modes of action, and which of the eight would work best for you doesn't seem to be easy to predict - you have to take one of them for about three months to find out if they work at all, which isn't a
cheering thought, and patients don't like the side effects.
