LOXAHATCHEE, Fl (CBS12) — It may be one of the strangest calls ever
taken by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).
One of its officers had to remove an alligator that had been hurled
into a Wendy's restaurant in Loxahatchee, via the drive-through
window.
The incident happened back in October, just after 1 a.m. at the
Wendy's on Southern Boulevard.
The FWC officer found the 3 1/2 foot gator on the kitchen floor,
according to the report. The officer taped the reptile's mouth shut
and hauled it to the C-51 canal to be released.
Investigators used surveillance video from the Wendy's and nearby
stores to identify a possible suspect.
In December, authorities brought in Joshua Douglas James, 24, for
questioning. According to the FWC report, he admitted to throwing the
gator through the drive-through window. James allegedly told
investigators he found the gator on the side of Southern Boulevard and
brought it to Wendy's.
James is facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a
third degree felony. He's also charged with taking or attempting to
take an alligator.
James made his first court appearance Tuesday, according to the
Associated Press. His bail was set at $6,000 and he was ordered to
have no contact with animals.
