The key in any survey is the idea of "random". With a savanna, one must avoid attends to over- (or under) include specific types of vegetation, such as including an excess number of trees over what is seen, etc. What I would do is to randomly generate
a set of blocks whose area is such that one could survey them completely, and then randomly assign these to a map of the habitat to be surveyed.

Hello All,
Could anyone recommend a standardized survey method for butterfly relative abundance in savanna? I am familiar with Pollard walks in grassland - do they translate well to savanna? Are there protocols for incorporating canopy cover metrics? I am looking
for any literature recommendations or helpful suggestions on the topic.
