I ignored Pascal's comment that few have a feel for the interpretative side of their reasoning until I encountered this newsgroup.

” And thus it is rare that mathematicians are perceptive and that men of perception are mathematicians, because mathematicians wish to treat matters of perception mathematically and make themselves ridiculous, wishing to begin with definitions and then
with axioms, which is not the way to proceed in this kind of reasoning. Not that the mind does not do so, but it does it tacitly, naturally, and without technical rules; for the expression of it is beyond all men, and only a few can feel it.” Pascal

Rather than diminish the mathematical or reasoning side of our nature, the perceptive side has been obliterated during the school years and for many they never recover. Urging people that they can do better once they let go of the rut ideologies of
mathematical theorists only works when there is something to look at and appreciate. Contemporary technologies do that and especially imaging of objects on larger scales such as the Earth itself, the solar system, galaxies or even larger structures that
    have yet to be encountered.
