The moon roughly follows the Earth's orbital plane so it spirals up as it moves in its orbit of the Earth and in front of the South Pole, at least as seen by the observer there.

The Sun is stationary so it spirals also as the South Pole turns parallel to the orbital plane and scribing the smallest circle on the December Solstice and furthest from the horizon.
